Sun 23 clear and quite coald morning meeting
commenced at nine O. clock at noon
Wm groomes and wife and daughter
and Elvila and Gearge pierce and
Wm Simes and wife James Servison
and wife and James pierce all ate diner
meeting ended at nine O. clock and
Wm grooms and wife and daughter and
Micheh Hair staid with us 1838

Mon 24 clear this morning I sent my not with
Hair which I held against Fraisure
and company I cut some rail timber
and after night it snowed som

Tue 25 cloudy this morning Father went
down to James pierces after oats
I drawed wood father got hom with 58
Bushels I done nothing of eny conciquen
it snowed som in the evening H R

Wed 26 clear this morning and quite coald and
Father started up to Logans port
I done nothing all day after night
I went over to Salem meeting house
in the evening it had the appearanc
of snow late in the evening 1838

Thu 27 Cloudy this morning but broke a
way and turned out quit nice I
shot five hogs for old Mr. Shigley
I made a sled two quite pleasent

Fri 28 cloudy this morning at eleven O clock
it snowed I drawed wood over to the
Meeting house John G Smith got
insualed at somthing or other at
night thier was ingin school at Salem
thiir was 20 out I kiled one praire hen
Am I a soldier of the cross a folower
of the lamb and shall I fear to on
his cause or blush to speak ahis nam
and must this feeble body faint

Thu 6 Clear and quite cool all day I went
down to Harison Ville to pay a
gudgment of lying betwene father
and Burgate the amount was
two dollars the cost one dollar I
got Receipt in full of all the
ammount I brought anc Ex
ecution against John G Smith
I killed five praire hens to day

Fri 7 partly clear early this mornig
very cold sun Rises at 25 mi
past seven O. clock it thoughed
a little in the day I drawed wood
Father sold two hogs to Mr.
Gennings for twelve Dollars
father and John Graves made
a find settlement up to this date
I Received fifty cts on hanvey

Sat 8 quite cloudy early this morning some
snow on the ground it broke away and
got clear and pleasent all day I went
to Lafayette and got an over Coat
cut out I gave one dollar I bought the
clothe at three dollars and fifty cts
per yard I got a bill of it Luas bot
of MC cormicks three yards and three
fourths of a yard of cloth 13. 12 cts
Trimmons 2. 75 cts handkerchief
37 cts and of powder 50 cts pound
of lead 12 cts totle amount 16. 87 cts
I started home from town after sun
set and got home half past seven

Sun 9 clear and quite cool at present I
went over to Salem meeting house
to prayr meeting there was at night
meeting too and I went to it 1838
Mr. Reasen frasure please thet
the Barer John Smith have the
full amount of ten Dollars and
by so doing you will oblige youfrei

30 October 23. 1838 Page 30

Tue 23 cloudy this morning and raind till noon
it broke away I worked all day on the canall

Wed 24 cloudy and at noon began to rain about
three O. clock I quit working on the canall

Thu 25 cloudy all day I continued working on
the Eri canall for Frasure and Hill

Fri 26 partly clear some flying clouds at this
time I continued working on the canall

Sat 27 clear this morning till noon and then it clouded
up and at five O. clock it began to rain
and after night it began to snow I continued
to work till noon then cam home amenen

Sun 28 some cloudy the snow fell about one inch
in debth it melted away it came five or
six squalls through the day I went down
to Mr. Mostillers at a two days meeting
then back to singing school at Mr
Simeses school house it commenced at
four O. clock and quit at five I started
home with Miss E B and got home

Mon 29 clear this morning with a heavy frost
I started over to the canall I worked three
quarters of a day so ends the chapter

Tue 30 some clear and cloudy together all day
I settled up with Resen Frasure and
he paid me five dollars my month being
at an end I worked till noon then quit amen

Wed 31 clear and pleasent all day I gethered corn
we husked three loads of corn this makes
the last of the month which it makes
the last of October 1838
Round is the ring that has no end
my ink is pale my pen is bad my love
to you shall never fail amen

Mon 15 cloudy part of the day some cooler
than common I worked on the canall
father got home at two O clock 1838

Tue 16 cloudy and a heavy frost this morning
Beard and fraiser had a fight old
beard came on with 8 hands and
went to work on the culbert he worke
till noon and gave it up for a dry
Job I worked on the canall 1838

Wed 17 some cloudy all day and cool easy work
on the canall I worked on the canall

Thu 18 cloud this and mist a little at noon
it raind hard for a while I traded
coats with dow Chism and gave eleven
Dollars to boot and .Robert hill
andnd Robert hodgens swapt even
Alfred toliver and thornton
Chevenger traded coat and thornton
Received 2.75 cents to boot 1838
and I trded pantaloons even with
Robert Chism dow and James
toliver traded wescots I worked 1838

Fri 19 cloud and cool all day I worked on
the canall 19 1838 Indiana 1838
father and mother started to shoney

Sat 20 tolerable clear till noon then it
got cloudy and cool I came home
against noon then I went out
and killed three wild hens so no more

Sun 21 clear and cool with a heavy frost
quite nice I went to meeten over
at the salem meeten house 1838

Mon 22 cloud this morning I started over to
the canall at day light it continude
so all day Mcenelld dide at night
we dell went to set up there
I worked half of the day 1838
