of respect for mee to tell your numerous
readers that the usage of the Methodist prote:
:stant church is directly the opposite of the
laws of the Methodist Episcopal church is to
tell them what they already know. that
we have a lay representation in both gen:
:eral and annual conferance; that all our
church officers are elected by the church
or her representatives; that all her memb:
:ers are received by the vote of the church.
that all her property belongs to the membesh:
:ip, that she always sails under her own
proper flag, and that she never, for conve:
niencesy or other wise, hoists the Episcopal
flag, which fact we pledge ourselves to
maintain, and beg leave to enrowl our name
withe the names of the advocates of religious
liberty Paul . Fry and he lyes to be sure

For the western Recorder
the little book again, friend Springer
in my last I called on Br. shinn for proof
that creeds or disciplines in the general, had
prevented divisions among those adopting
them, and in this I ask him to shew that
the little book, recommended by him, has
been more successful than its predecessors
if he is not already apprised of it, permit
me to inform him, that in the limits of
my acquaintance, some preachers, and
several memebers, who once adopted '
the little book, have either went back into
the old line, or strayed off into other denom:
:inations. so that ' the little book itself; has
proved a failure but onother argument has
been used in favor of creeds and disciplines,
which I must notice, namely, ' it is more honist
and fair, to have our belief written out and
published, so that the world may know exactly
what we do hold to, and believe, than to have

Page 67 - May 29, 1839 - Yarnold Scared

May the 29 . 1839 Page . 67.....

Wed 29 Clear this morning and had the appearance
of a fine day some considerable warmer
than it has been for some two or three days
past it got some cloudy and rained som
I went to Mill in the fore noon in
the after noon I grubed Father came
home from Chicogo he got ten bushels of
potatoes at fifteen cents per bushels and one
barel of green aples at seven dollars per
barel and six bolts of factry cotten at
eight cts per yard he stored up his butter
for to be sold at the rise of the market

Thu 30 Clear this morning and quite pleasant
it turned quite warm it continued prety nice
till late in the evening then it clouded up
I groubed till four O clock in the evening
then I went over to Timmons to thear
brother Springer triy to preach after
the meeting I went after a cow that
Father had bought of John Mahen
he gave him eighteen Dollars for her

Fri 31 Some cloudy but soon broke away and got clear
with the exception of a few flying clouds
it continued in that position till late in the
evening it clouded up and sprinkled some
of rain Father went down to Laffayette
I groubed bresh Michel Dunfee he also
groubed for us too after night what do you
think hapned with Mrs. Yarnold now
I.ll enter in with a brief detail of what
hapned well it has been for nearly ten
years since she had an hair before and at
this timi she has a fine large sone on
which its name is Yarnold Aaron
I never expected such would ever come too
pass on this earth again I think that
Yarnold is very proud of it which noe
dought is I would bee if it was my case
I asertained that said Yarnold was
nearly sceard to death which mow douth
was the case with him for noe wonder

Page 65 - May 20, 1839 - Three Dollar Bill

May the 20.th 1839 Page 65

Mon 20 Clear this morning in the evening it got
and cloudy and had the appearance of rain
I came home from Shoney very warme
Father started to Chiccaugo again I
am rather under the weather for somthing
and that is best nowing to my self

Tue 21 Clear this morning for a short space
of time it soon got cloudy and then it
broke away and got clear I made fence
awhile and the rest of the time done nothing

Wed 22 Clear this morning quite warm in the
evening it got cloudy and looked like
rain I for the first time commenced
plowing my corm and done well 1839

Thu 23 Cloudy this morning and rained a fine
little shower then it broke away and
got quite clear and pleasent I had a thing
which goes by the name of cultivator it does
extriordinary well wind South west
it got cloudy at night and rained some
after night I went to meeting at the
Timmons Mr. Springer preached
and in the night it rained a fine shower

Fri 24 Cloudy this morning and rained some and
has the appearance of contiuen on all day
this morning I counted up how many days
which I have keep an acount of which contains
four hundred and .13 days from the 8 day of
April 18308 to the 24 day of May 1839 100
a three dollar bill bank of Ann Arbor
Michigan stomped with two men with a
cradle in each of their hands with a letter d
on it it got clear and quite warm I went
down to Harison Ville to muster rite
smart out at three it cam up a hard
dash of rain it thundred and lightned quite
sharp it broke away som few moments
and then it began to rain again 1839
I came hom at five O clock P. M.
