November the first 1838 Page 30

Thu 1 some cloudy this morng it broke away till
nearly noon to noon it raind a little but quit
the sun shoen out quite read it was a
Desperately smoky day and at night I
helped to gether thre loads of corne I killed
two praire hens and broke a cranes leg to

Fri 2 a heavy frost this morning clear till noon
it clouded up for a while though it soon brok away
but desperately smokey I killed one praire
hen we gethered two loads of corne which made
the last of that ten acres of John Smiths

Sat 3 cloudy and a raining it sprinkled all day
I went down to Laffayette I paid of a note
of five Dollars and fifty cents I got a pair
of pantiloons and noe fit so I.ll quit

Sun 4 clear this morning cut foggy it continued
so till in the after noon and then it cloude
up I went over to Salem meeting house
the people tarned out rite smart 1838

Mon 5 it commenced snowing a little before
day light it continued snowing very hard
all morning Father and Isaac Klepping
started to Lafayette to attend court it
was a blustery day I cut down a tree
that stans betweene John L Smiths
and our house and went out and kiled
a crain I was a walking along up flew
some twenty or thirty crains out of old
Mr. Shigleys field and I fired away
and broke a wing I fetched him home
and I had fine fun with the crain and
dog a fighting about four O. clock it
away and then the sun shoen
out clear but clouded up dreckley again
I went out and killed one praire hen
my god my life to the to take I call for
refuge I pray one day after date I
promised to pay Samuel Smith the
sum of ten dollars for value R
